OSX DRIVER UPDATE with HIGH RES MIDINew EKS Driver Pack is now available also for OSX computers. The main addition in the update is the support for high-resolution (14bit) MIDI. High resolution MIDI is a way to double the amount of data transferred at once via MIDI. Instead of the 7 bits of the original MIDI standard, with high resolution MIDI it's possible to transfer 14 bits. High resolution parameters are formed by combining named two control change messages. First message (coarse) transfers high seven bits of a 14-bit value and the second messages (fine) transfer the low seven bits. NOTE: High resolution should not be confused with the high-definition MIDI. Whereas High-resolution MIDI is a extension to the original standard, HD-MIDI is a new replacement standard, which is currently being drafted by the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA). First draft of HD-MIDI should be published later this year. |
