Evolution of the revolution - the EKS story

Analog era

In the year 1955 a Finnish audio visionary Tapio Matti Köykkä developed a new kind of sound amplification system at his home on his spare time. Since his employer could not utilize this invention, a brand new company was founded. This company was called Voimaradio Oy.

In 1969 T.M. Köykkä applied for a patent for his revolutionary new surround-style amplifier system. This system was later to become the legendary Ortoperspektra, which is still cherished by audio enthusiasts around the globe. The system emulates a concert hall by simulating the reflecting sounds with a three-way speaker system. It took the foreign rivals 10 years to develop similar technology and use it in their products.

For 30 years Köykkä continued his work and experimentations with high end audio products. He gained a reputation of a controversial figure because of his groundbreaking ideas, which were often criticized by other researchers, but always in the end proven to be correct. “Finland is known as a land of technological progression – rather than just following the foreign lines of development”, he was known to have written on his CV.

Digital age

In the year 2000 a team of audio engineers, DJ's, music producers and forward looking software engineers were gathered to create high quality products for digital age DJ's with Köykkä's ideals in mind. The central principle was to create professional level products by combining Voimaradio's vast knowledge of analog sound reproduction with the possibilities of digital technology. EKS was born.

After rigorous product development the first version of the revolutionary XP10 was introduced in 2001. It was one of the first plug-and-play digital controllers to enter the market and received great reviews in industry magazines and among professional DJ's. After a couple of years a more consumer oriented version XP5 was introduced to the market. It combined affordable pricing with the features of the original XP10.

But EKS' ambitions didn't stop there. In 2008 EKS introduced it's latest innovation – the next generation DJ controller product line called OTUS. Otus' futuristic design, innovative solutions, solid aluminum build and fully configurable controls quickly gained interest among DJ's and gear enthusiasts around the world, proving Köykkä's words about Finland being a land of technological progression still valid.

Future

We here at EKS are looking to the future, but not forgetting our past. While developing new cutting edge digital products we are keeping the company tradition of quality as our guiding principle. We believe that when it comes to professional equipment, quality really matters.
